Sestri Levante

Sestri Levante

Things to do - general

Defined by the local people as the “city of the two seas” because of the fact the the old town overlooks  two bays at the same time, called “Bay of the Fables” and “Bay of Silence” and that extend respectively in the west side and east side, this area is characterized by a beautiful landscape thanks to the presence of lush green vegetation, blue sea and golden sandy beaches.

The name “Bay of Fables” was given by the great author of children’s books Hans Christian Andersen, who visited these places being fascinated and in his honor Sestri Levante is home of a Literary Award dedicated to children and which allow it to claim the title of  “Children’s Town“.

Due to the strong tradition of local fishermen the cuisine of this city is strongly characterized by fish and especially from the anchovy. If  happen to find yourself in these areas in July you can head to the nearby Riva Trigoso, a village east of the city, where more every year take place the festival of Bagnun a tipical plate of anchovies, onions, garlic, parsley, tomato and white wine.
